Gastonia Aero Club was formed in 1987 for the express purpose of "promoting an interest in flying and recreational aviation...and to do all other things necessary or expedient" [in fostering that interest]. That's the legal version out of the club' by laws. The "plain English" version is that we've been in the business of buying and maintaining good quality airplanes and matching them up with good pilots who both enjoy aviation and are safety focused for almost 20 years!
We own three aircraft with differences that reflect the variety of missions for which they are suited and the operational desires of the club. Our aircraft are;
N80641 - A Cessna 172M, this aircraft represents the trusted friend that many pilots first took to the skies with. She's not a fancy bird, but she's clean and well maintained and capable, with good "steam gauge" avionics and IFR certification. Also, with the Penn Yan Aero 180 HP conversion, she's got a lot of giddyup-go in her!
N9321J - A Piper Cherokee 180, this one is our prima donna. She's cute and fast, and attracts lots of attention at every airport. This jewel has a 50 gallon fuel capacity,and a 180 HP engine. She flies like a dream.
Gastonia Aero Club is organized as a "C" Corporation in North Carolina in 1987, and is registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State. We are a membership organization with a maximum of 33 memberships outstanding. Our members include both professional aviators (including a retired Eastern Airlines Captain), business professionals and entrepreneurs, retired folks and others--a broad mix of members.
