In the Gastonia Aero Club, we work hard to keep the costs to our members low. The club is a "not for profit" corporation and the members voluntarily donate their time and effort to run the club. Additionally, we make every effort to treat our equipment properly and keep it well maintained to avoid unwarranted operating costs.

One of the worst things from a maintenance aspect that can happen to an airplane is for it to not fly regularly. To avoid this and also induce our members to fly often (and maintain their flying skill as well), we have grouped our operating costs and fees into fixed (regular monthly dues and assessments) and variable (aircraft cost per hour) expenses. By using this approach, the overall cost per hour to a member decreases as one flies more, but the fixed costs such as hanger rental, insurance, periodic airplane inspections, registration fees, etc. are shared by all.

As one can easily understand, because of changes in price for things such as fuel and insurance, operating costs may change over time; however, the following is what it presently costs a member to belong to our club:

FLYING TIME PER HOUR WET (with the cost of fuel and oil included)
        Cessna 172                        $69.00
        Piper Cherokee 180          $65.00
        Cessna 182                        $89.00

REGULAR MONTHLY DUES AND ASSESSMENTS
        Dues                                $80.00
        Assessment                        $44.85
